I will tell you a bit about my Liberation Treatment in India. I had 3 (3-D) MRI s done and they found nothing. My doctor is very brave and a good man decided to go ahead and balloon out a couple small veins. When he shot in the dye in the Venogram, he found three major blockages, proving that MRI (and theirs is state of the art) should never be the deciding factor for an angioplasty. The blockages ARE there for Multiple Sclerosis patients and they just need to find them. He then unblocked the left vein ballooning in 2 places and unblocked the right side using a stint. The right side went from a trickle to a whoosh, whoosh!
I got hot and cold feet and hands right away, which they were only cold since I was young before. A few days later the cramping around my stomach (which had been there 10 or more years) began to go away and it is now almost all gone. Last week, I also got feeling in the bottom of my feet. This morning I have feeling in the inside of my hands.
I will NEVER, ever regret going; and people who do, should make sure to have the invasive Venogram done. Suck it up, your option is to die slowly. Kolhapur is a great place to do this through Meditours (www.meditours.org) from Kelowna and at 15,000.00 US$ including all, except flights is a great option. It is supposedly more expensive than Poland (except they charge for every little extra, like hotel, MRI, stents in Poland); but in Kolhapur you stay right in a hospital with your caregiver and the price includes their stay as well as all transfers and 5 star restaurant meals. The doctors and equipment are also the best in the world and truly wish to help you and will go the extra to find blockages. They are very brave and kind.
I now have the chance to have my life back thanks to Dr Prabhu and Meditours.

May 6th - Liberation in India. On the table, my feet and hands got alternately hot and cold.
May 8th - The cramp that has been like a tightened lariat around my waist for the past 15 years (and actually cracked some ribs) is coming and going until in the first part of June. It is mostly gone and now my muscles just feel tight. I assume that body builder tightness is the remnant of years for being cramped.
May 11th - My mother and Jim noticed my voice is a lot stronger now, when I phoned from Brussels/Belgium. Perhaps less stomach cramping, perhaps blood to the neck muscles.
June, my girlfriend Louise said "Oh yes it is so much stronger. I have my girlfriend back."
May 27th - I got feeling back in the top of my hands. I am waiting for my finger tips yet.
May 28th - I got feeling in the top of my feet. I have not been able to feel my feet in years and years.
June 5th - I planted my bedding plant flowers and was not tired, unlike last year.
June 6th - I was able to be out and organize seeds to plant the whole garden with only a break for lunch.
June 9th - I was able to take a few steps with only my cane as an assist.
June 12th - I have feeling in my toes this morning, as I can feel my stockings going on over them for the first time in possibly 10 years.
June 13 - I was able to take my walker up and down part of my driveway for about 65 steps.

His $25,000 'medical vacation'
regarded as money well spent
The Province
Wednesday, June 15, 2005
You might think that Robert Stuart Smith, 72, would go
down on his knees in thanks to his surgeon.
But Smith, a well-known Vancouver entertainer and realtor,
is just as thankful for the man who made his surgical
journey to India to have his left knee fixed a success.
Tired of waiting to get it fixed here because of a long
waiting list, he explored alternatives and eventually
contacted Kelowna-based business man Milind Pendharkar
and his Meditour company that arranges medical-tourist
packages to India.
"I cannot say enough about how Milind and his company
handled everything for me and my wife," he said yesterday
in an interview.
"He looked after absolutely everything from getting
me to the Kerala Institute of Medical Science for the
operation to arranging therapy and tourist activities
and follow-up after getting back home."
"My advice to anyone contemplating this would be
to go through a reputable service like Meditour to do
all the arranging," he said.
While the whole exercise cost him about $25,000 Cdn,
it has been money well spent.
Smith says the medical institute was first class and
very thorough. "I was in hospital for two weeks with
follow-up therapy and it was all very efficient.
"In fact," he says, "they were so thorough
in examining me from teeth to toes that they discovered
stuff about me I didn't know.
"They discovered that I had only been born with
one kidney. It has never hindered me, but it certainly
speaks to their thoroughness, and the service I received
was excellent," he said.
Smith has no quarrel with the Canadian health system.
"I just think the system is overloaded and I was
able to go and get treated elsewhere."
He had his surgery seven weeks ago and is happy with
the result.

Millions of Americans are not only broke; they’re sick. But what if you need surgery — and can’t afford it? What do you do? Increasingly, the answer for many Americans is: grab your passport and hop on a plane.
Almost a million Americans a year are traveling half-way across the world to get medical treatments in places like India, where the average costs for procedures can be just 10 percent of U.S. prices.

Hip surgery in India? Insurance may pay
Timmi Ryerson, a San Diego stock market analyst, says her left hip actually works again, thanks to an orthopaedic specialist in India.
While at least 150,000 Americans travel abroad for medical care every year, according to the American Medical Association, Ryerson, represents a small but growing category of medical tourist: patients whose insurance companies have agreed to foot at least part of the bill.
Increasingly, some of the nation’s larger employers and leading health insurers agree.
Once the province of the poor and uninsured, medical tourism is gaining attention of industry giants such as CIGNA, Aetna and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, who say they either have begun or are considering pilot programs that provide limited coverage for foreign care. One Montana firm, Employee Benefit Management Services Inc., recently began offering medial tourism plans to its 120 self-insured clients in the Northwest.
Lured by low-price luxury
It’s a trend applauded by insurers and patients lured by offshore prices that are a fraction of U.S. costs and care that advocates claim rivals luxury health spas.
Perks include air fare, lodging — for two
Insurers acknowledge they're considering a range of rewards aimed at motivating patients to choose foreign care.
Some plans may waive co-payments or reimburse patients for choosing less-expensive services. EBMS, the Montana firm, said that in addition to covering all medical costs, some plans will pay for air fare, lodging and other travel expenses for the patient — and a companion.
"The idea is if they choose to go offshore, the companion gets a little vacation," said Rick Larson, chief executive of EBMS.
No question, financial savings are at the heart of the interest, said Aube, of CIGNA, who noted that several large employers are considering offering coverage, but have not yet decided. But they're also motivated by the chance to provide more choice for consumers, she added.
“Top-notch care, a fraction of the cost
. Her hospital room was as lavish as any elegant hotel suite and her care included round-the-clock services of a private nurse.
“I just think that others need to be aware that they are able to have a safe procedure done out of the country for a price at a third the cost,” she said.
“While she was there, Ryerson also had cosmetic surgery and dental work done at her own expense.
The Joint Commission International certifies about 170 hospitals and medical centers worldwide. Many of the doctors who practice in hospitals frequented by medical tourists have been trained and certified in the United States.
